aye. just gave up doing my readings. argh they suck. malisa here has english composition class tmr called freshman writing seminar =( abt abolitionist icons. siann
yesterday I went to watch a really really interesting concert. something that I would never have seen in singapore. It was an all blacks concert, featuring Mozart Piano COncerto no.8 in Eflat, a piece by somebody i cant rmb, and Haydn's Farewell symphony. The solo pianist featured was Paul Badura-Skoda. THink i've seen him somewhere before but I cant rmb. The running notes were a bit tripped but it didnt affect the overall effect. He looked awkward at doing certain turns with his wrist/arms but it is fascinating to see that those awkward movements didnt affect the sound produced and the musicality shown. I think it is really confusing to conduct and play piano at the same time when performing. heh peifu!
The Orchestra played well, filled with spirit and robust energy. The "farewell" symphony was the most memorable. So, basically Haydn composed this on a certain summer when Prince Esterhazy (his employer) was away on holiday and he stayed a little too long. The court orchestra was getting displeased becos they were away from their families so Haydn composed this such that the last movement features the performers getting off stage one by one, in hope that this will send a message across to the prince that hey! we should go home. heh he succeeded! and poof! they went back the next day. so well, this scene was reenacted by the orchestra. so haha it was pretty cool.
(nick, dun steal my high class musical descriptions =P)
oh! and i practised for FOUR hours before the concert. so so so tired.
After c oncert, came back to dorms to watch movie at neil's room. heh it was so gory but funny. hahaha i was screaming everywhere. argh! i forgot the title of the film.
Today! had church in the morning then ate a bit in church (chinese food!) then came back to dorms to eat more. hahahapigging day! ah! meals on weekends are so nice. the hashbrowns are just awesome! =))
